New England Model Railway Club

One of New England Model Railway Clubs' activities among our diversified members, is to proudly display our mobile exhibition layout. It is in fact our main asset.

To demonstrate, our club has been ‘delightfully’ invited to exhibit our Swan Vale layout at the following shows and exhibitions.

Goulburn Model Railway Exhibition (28-30th August 2026)

(Hall sleeping allowed)

This year more trade stands and layout to attend. So, we have expanded with another building, now 3 to make room for all. We are looking forward to holding this event again this year and are appreciative of the part your club contributes to what we have to offer to those who attend.

The Great Train Show 2026 (28-30th October 2026)

(Hall sleeping NOT allowed)

The Epping Model Railway Club Inc. is delighted to invite you. Following our record-breaking attendance last year, we look forward to partnering with you to showcase some of the best of railway modelling along Australia's east coast.

Venue: Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, Sydney

Show Dates: Saturday 24th, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday 25th, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Set up: Friday 23rd October, 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm

These exhibitions offer a great opportunity to display your layout and trains of that period (NSWGR/PTC), and at times others. It is a great community to join in with at exhibitions, and we look for between 5 to 10 people to attend, some to help set up/pack up, but most importantly to engage with our visitors, and promote the club.

Both venues are generally accessible by train, so use your free passes or $2.50 senior cards. Travel from Moree or Tenterfield to Scone (and $2.50 from Scone to Goulburn).

Accommodation options include about $60/night for Goulburn (for 2 people) and $80/night for Parramatta (for 2 people).

About Swan Vale

"Swan Vale" is a locale situated between Glen Innes and the East Coast in the New England region of NSW. Known for its picturesque landscapes and tranquil atmosphere, the area reflects in our exhibition layout. There was some consideration to building a rail line through this region to connect with the Main North Line.

Swan Vale is a portable HO scale detailed exhibition layout. Measuring 6.3m × 3.3m, it features double mainlines with a branch line in two directions, running three different trains simultaneously with shunting movements. It includes a twelve-track “hidden holding yard” with four tracks ready to dispatch the next train service.

Over the years, the layout has been displayed at exhibitions across Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra, Murwillumbah, Murrurundi, Coffs Harbour, Moree, Narrabri, Inverell, and Wagga Wagga. It won the Best Layout award at the Canberra Model Railway Exhibition.

The layout features a triple oval: outer and inner main lines, bidirectional branch lines, a hidden fiddle yard, a small rural township with station and platforms, main passing loops, industrial areas, shunting yards, mountains, gorge country, and tunnels.

The complex wiring system allows for either DC or AC operations across five sections.
